Girl Talk

Emily, Jess, Sloan, and I played some Girl Talk last night because there was no internet at the Intern house. It was quite fun.

It’s a Truth or Dare game for 8 yrs old and up, made the year I was born. 1988.

If you dont answer or do the dare, are you have to put a zit sticker on your face (OH SO EMBARRASSING!)

Some highlights: Emily acted out as if she was in the ice escapades, Jess lip sang and danced to Human by The Killers, I dressed up in some “tacky” clothes (basically mis matched mine and Capers’ clothes. oh ya i borrowed your jacket for a minute capes! thanks!), I also had to call a cute boy in my phone and tell him jokes until he laughs. What’s the different between popcorn and pea soup?…………..  and Sloan and Jess did the tango when Tammy, another roommate walked in.

Here are a few photos to help illustrate the night.

By the way, I won, and Jess gave me one of these cards because she thought this described me:

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

A couple days late..

Last night we decided to celebrate Jess’s homeland and have Canadian Thanksgiving.

Kyle cooked cheddar corn chowder, I baked chocolate chip cookies, Emily cooked potato salad, Capers cooked squash that didn’t finish till after we were done eating 😦 , Jess cooked sweet potatoes and baked apples sprinkled with caramel and David brought the manliness to dinner since Grayson was sick at home with SARS or something. As we sat on the floor around the coffee table we talked about people from our home states/countries like   Ryan Gosling, Wayne Gretzky, Mike Myers, Martin Short all from Canada, Dashboard Confessional’s Chris Carrabba from  Florida, Michigan, Rosa Parks from Alabama, and Ellen DeGeneres from Louisiana, and Steven Colbert from Charleston.  And then talked about our different accents and how we say certain words.  Then we played a little Mad Gab, Jess’s favorite game.  Have you ever played? Say this phrase out loud until you can get what it’s saying: “A SIGN US PROP PLUM”
Then we played one of my What If games. It was a fun night. Here are a few photos 🙂

Today is Emily’s 23rd Bday!!

So we surprised her with a chocolate chip cookie cake and mountain dew.
David didn’t make it till later on but a man in a Banana suit joined us. It was delightful.

and then we all pigged out and did cartwheels in the front yard.

FALL INTERNS ARE HERE!!

We arrived Sept 1st, 4 of us.

My name is Sarah Jean and I have been dubbed the Gopher of the office. I go for this and go for that. basically do whatever misc things need to be done as well as handle all of the shipping stuff. I am also a photographer. I am from all over Southern California. Home is about an hour away with no traffic. But who says there is ever “no traffic”?

Emily is our second graphic designer extraordinaire aka “She makes things.” She works side by side with Grayson, they are basically attached at the hip. Emily makes really good sweet tea because she’s from Louisiana.

Kyle is the Chief Strategist who books all our speaking engagements with high schoolers and frat boys and churches all over the states for Sean, Jon, and David. Kyle also loves to go to Whole Foods every day. She went to UCLA and is a native to New York and Michigan.

Shahla has been really sick the past couple of weeks so she has been home in Fullerton, CA but we hope she is getting better fast because we miss her! She has been working on booking Speakeasies. She’s Persian.

So far as the Fall Interns, we have gathered wood for our Fred Segal display that will launch in October.
Good ol’ Nathanael will be constructing that.  We rearranged the tiny office a bit differently. We have head up a few events for Falling Whistles.

In the office in general, we have been shipping a ton of whistles. W00t W00t!
Capers has been working hard on the Free World Reader. Jess has been planning events up the wazoo and getting us connected with bands.
Blair left us to go on tour with Josiah Leming but she took whistles with her!
Grayson has been non stop working on all things design.

ALSO every day (well almost) and about 4pm (sometimes later) we have a 4 minute dance party. It’s pretty awesome.

Oh man it also has been getting chilly here in Venice! Fall is finally here and the garage office gets extra chilly.

And just a few photos from the Fall so far.

whhadddupp fall interns.

Like I said in the previous post, this is the last week for some of the interns.  Everything about them leaving is sad.  No more weird noises along the lines of ergghhh from Shikha,  Emma won’t be around to make up bad nicknames and Bradford won’t be shippin’ and bein bossy.

Joking aside, it is such an incredible feeling being able to play a part in building an organization from the ground up. There is so much creativity jammed into this little garageoffice it’s insane.  I have never worked anywhere where I have felt so challenged and inspired to work my butt of for the people around me.  Now to pull out the sap card…I love my friends and family at home, but I have new friends and 13 new family members here and I really don’t want it to end. I’m real sad that we’re all splitting up this weekend but it makes me really happy that soon new people will come and do this all over again.

Honestly, you would be crazy not to apply for this internship.

Jess

*Ah! I’m way too camera shy, you’d think maybe parts of LA would have rubbed off on me.  My performance is not Oscar material.

Rooftops.

SO, we had an(other) amazing weekend in LA, the last for some of the interns which we’re collectively not very happy about.  But, we did have two events full of rooftops, music and bradford bringing even more boys to the yard…the girl is on a roll…

And, this rendition of Use Somebody by KOL is honestly the most amazing thing I have ever heard. Ever. Jill and Haven are amazing.

Thanks to everybody who played on Sunday!  Kai Brown, Eye 5, Amy Wallace and Jill and Haven. They were wonderful.

P.S. I took some of these pictures from the lovely Sloan Finley, Jessica Bradford and Capers Rumph.

And I will leave you with another Mewithoutyou lyric that I love:

you’re a door-without-a-key, a field-without-a-fence
you made a holy fool of me and I’ve thanked you ever since.
if she comes circling back we’ll end where we’d begun
like two pennies on the train track the train crushed into one
or if I’m a crown without a king, if I’m a broken open seed
if I come without a thing, then I come with all I need
no boat out in the blue, no place to rest your head,
the trap I set for you seems to have caught my leg instead!

Hey everyone. I just wanted to share some photos from the past few days. These are just from office life, and an event that was thrown to benefit FW last thursday. Enjoy…

And just a sweet quote introduced to me that touches on the fact that no matter the conditions, humans always have hope and that is why we press on…

“Hope springs eternal in the human breast” -alexander pope
